Rupertsland Institute Announces Significant Funding for the Advancement of Métis Students

ENDOWMENTS WILL SUPPORT POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES AT FOUR ALBERTA COLLEGES

Edmonton, AB (September 28, 2018) — During the month of September, the Rupertsland Institute and the Métis Education Foundation have announced the creation of four new endowments totalling almost $1.3 million to support Métis student success throughout Alberta.

“Today, I am happy to announce and celebrate this meaningful milestone,” said Audrey Poitras, President of the Métis Nation of Alberta. “The Métis Nation of Alberta, Rupertsland Institute and the Mètis Education Foundation, in partnership with four esteemed post-secondary institutions in our province, have created endowments in perpetuity totalling $1,292,600.”

On September 7, the Métis Nation of Alberta, Rupertsland Institute and the Métis Education Foundation announced a $375,000 endowment in partnership with Northern Lakes College.

On September 11, an endowment in the sum of $287,600 was announced to assist Métis students at Lakeland College.

Medicine Hat College was the site of the September 12 announcement of a partnership to create a $130,000 endowment.

And on September 14, a $500,000 endowment was announced to assist Métis students attending Concordia University of Edmonton.

“In making this announcement, I am aware that this contribution on behalf of future generations of Métis citizens could not be possible without the relationships and partnerships that we have created with the Métis community and stakeholders across the province,” added Ms. Poitras.
