Manager of Human Resource Services & Staff Development

The Role

Rupertsland Institute is recruiting for an experienced Manager of Human Resource Services & Staff Development to join our Human Resources team.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Director, the incumbent will primarily be responsible to support and deliver HR services and programs in alignment with the organization’s objectives.  The successful candidate will assist in the overall guidance and support services to departments to promote alignment and successful implementation of programs and processes.  The Manager of Human Resources Services & Staff Development will be hands-on role that is responsible for initiatives and supporting growth of the organization.

Specific duties include:

  • The HR generalist is responsible for full cycle recruitment, which includes job postings to screening and hiring to orientation
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, clients/customers, visitors, and other external stakeholders
  • Refer and/or redirect calls, emails, or visitors as required
  • Answer telephone and electronic inquiries and relay telephone calls and messages
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete personnel records
  • Advise employees and managers on the interpretation of human resources policies, compensation and benefit programs
  • Draft memoranda, correspondence, policies, reports, proposals, job descriptions, policies, and other employment documentation
  • Leading the recruitment process in support of our operations including job postings, screening, interviewing, and on-boarding
  • Deliver orientations and training sessions as required
  • Recommend and coordinate staff development workshops and training sessions and implement requests from Senior Team Services Directors
  • Maintain human resources information and related records systems in compliance with applicable legislation
  • Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices; recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance; and adopt best practices where feasible
  • Implementing programs to improve employee on-boarding experience and employee engagement
  • Administering employee benefit plan and pension plan
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong knowledge of applicable employment legislation
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation
  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion


Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education (degree / diploma) with a focus in HR management
  • Five to seven years of progressive experience in a human resources role is required


Other Requirements

  • Position will be based at the Rupertsland Institute, Head Office in Edmonton, Alberta
  • Political sensitivity and ability to deal with confidential information
  • An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
