Partnership to Deliver Temporary Services for Ft. McMurray Evacuees

The Rupertsland Institute and Service Canada are working together to host services for those who are affected by the Ft. McMurray fire.  This includes assistance for those who are eligible for Employment Insurance through on-line applications which are fast-tracked for review and approval.

Historic Meeting of Rupertsland Institute, Employment & Social Development Canada & Service Canada

April 25, 2016, Edmonton, Alberta – Research, Policy and Strategic Partnerships The Rupertsland Institute (RLI) and representatives of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and Service Canada (SC) held a highly productive meeting on Thursday, April 21st that included dialogue on a broad number of issues ranging from how the ongoing economic downturn has affected Métis people, to an analysis of the federal Aboriginal Skills Enhancement and Training Strategy (ASETS). 

Rupertsland Institute Reading Room Unveiled at MacEwan University

Rupertsland Institute CEO Lorne Gladu along with Audrey Poitras President of the Metis Nation of Alberta joined MacEwan University’s Dean of the School of Business Elsie Elford, Executive Director,  Amelia Canto Ellis, and Joanne Lieu, Senior Development Officer on March 22, 2016 for the unveiling of the Rupertsland Reading Room.

Métis Week 2015 Activities

Each year, on November 16th, Métis people across Canada pay tribute to the Right Honourable Louis Riel by holding a commemorative ceremony on the date of his execution. This ceremony symbolizes the commitment Métis people share in striving for and promoting the visions of Louis Riel and is one of the most important dates on the Métis calendar.

Métis Nation of Alberta Supports Education Initiatives at Symposium

Edmonton, AB – October 8, 2015 Métis Nation of Alberta President (MNA), Audrey Poitras and Métis Nation of Ontario President (MNO), Gary Lipinksi were present at the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Education Symposium, which kicked off last night in Edmonton.

2015 Métis Youth Conference Leads to Métis Nation of Alberta Youth Council

Alberta Métis Youth experienced a first-hand lesson in governance this past weekend by presenting a general resolution before the Métis Nation of Alberta General Assembly to create a Métis Youth Council. The resolution was a direct result of lessons learned and a passionate discussion during Friday’s Rupertsland Institute 2015 Métis Youth Gathering.

Rupertsland Institute Presents First Alumni Gathering

Former recipients of Rupertsland Institute and the Métis Nation of Alberta Labour Market Development program gathered in Edmonton, Alberta during the MNA Annual General Assembly to celebrate their shared accomplishments. Rupertsland Institute also used the event to announce its intentions to create a formal alumni association.

MEF Endowments at Northern Lakes College

Northern Lakes College and the Métis Education Foundation celebrated the creation of a $200,000 Special Purpose Fund for Métis students attending Northern Lakes College. The gift from the Métis Education Foundation along with a contribution from Northern Lakes College will allow the fund to distribute awards and bursaries over a 15 year period to Métis students.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

On September 19, 2014, Rupertsland Institute staff participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as nominated by former staff member Wayne Morin. Together, Rupertsland Institute staff raised over $1097 for ALS Canada and nominated Audrey Poitras, president of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
