The Role

Position Status: Part Time (10 – 15 hours/week), Temporary (September 2024 – May 2025)

The Organization

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has a triple mandate in education, training, and research. With a decentralized network of 10 METI-Service Centres, a Corporate Head Office in Edmonton, and two mobile service units; RLI designs and delivers training and education services to more than 140,000 Alberta Métis.

The Opportunity

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is hiring one (1) Human Resources (HR) Assistant Intern. This is a part time, internship position with an end date of May 9, 2025. Reporting to the Human Resources (HR) Manager, the successful candidate will assist with recruitment activities, employee engagement activities, and providing general administrative support. The successful candidate will be an eager, self-motivated individual looking to gain valuable work experience. The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships and possess a positive attitude.

The successful candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources.

To Fit the Role

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment activities, including:
  • Creating job postings, pre-screen and interview guides.
  • Posting job advertisements.
  • Conducting pre-screens and reference checks.
  • Support with onboarding and offboarding activities, including completing checklists.
  • Draft various documentation, such as offer letters and memos.
  • Create personnel files.
  • Assist with employee engagement activities.
  • Assist with Health and Safety related tasks.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Candidate will be enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources (required).
  • 1 year experience in Human Resources is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of customer service experience.
  • Some experience in administration is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to switch between multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with others.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player.
  •  Strong sense of ethics and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) skills.
  • Some knowledge of applicable employment legislation, and the ability to read and interpret legislation.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, people, and values.

Other Requirements:

  • Due to funding requirements, this position is open to Otipemisiwak Métis students only.
  • Due to funding requirements, candidates must be between the ages of 17 – 29.
  • Due to funding requirements, candidates must be currently enrolled in full-time post secondary education and must be returning to school full time in September 2024.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, on occasion.
