Employment Services

Through the Métis Education Training & Information Services or MÉTIS program (formerly the Métis Training to Employment or MTE program), Rupertsland Institute (RLI) offers services to assist Métis individuals in preparing for, finding and keeping employment. Trained MÉTIS advisors provide these services from RLI’s office locations and Mobile Employment units throughout the province.

RLI also offers group-training projects that provide marketable skills to Métis people in targeted areas of the labour market. Find available training projects in your region on our training projects page.

General services

RLI offers Métis people support in three broad categories: job assistance, funded training and employment information. Visit one of RLI’s Métis Education Training Information Services (MÉTIS) centres to access the service that best suits your needs or to speak one-on-one with an Employment Counsellor or Job Coach.

Job Assistance:

  • Assessment of transferrable and marketable skills
  • Assistance with resumé building
  • Referral to jobs and job search assistance
  • Marketing of clients to industry

Funded Training:

  • Employment assessment and action planning
  • Career research and exploration
  • Access to RLI programs and custom-designed training projects

Ongoing Programs

RLI also offers tailored programs to assist you in reaching your long-term employment or career goals. RLI currently offers five ongoing programs to assist you prepare for, find and keep employment.

Employment Partnership program – Gain valuable work experience and on the job training with a designated employer in your chosen field of work.

Youth Summer Employment program Get valuable employment experience in a place of your choice over the summer! Available to Métis youth between the ages of 15-30 who are returning to school in the fall.

Entrepreneurial Development program – Make your business ideas come to life. Experts offer step-by-step support at workshops and direct one-on-one assistance to help you determine if self- employment is a viable option. You can access support to develop a business plan and secure funding. For more information, visit our Métis Entrepreneur Workshop’s website.

Employment Supports program – Through this program, you can gain access to the required tools, work attire (such as work boots), short-course certification (such as safety tickets), mobility assistance or one-year certificates to secure employment.

Disability program RLI works with you to create a suitable action plan for your employment needs. Our Disability Coordinator and other experts can assist with evaluations such as neurological and functional capacity assessments, as well as physical demand analysis, to determine your appropriate career goals. When deemed necessary, this program also provides support and assistive technology to facilitate access to the labour market, maintain employment and encourage success in the world of work.
