The Role

This position is based on Conditional Grant Funding until March 31, 2028

The Opportunity
Rupertsland Institute is recruiting for an Academic Streaming & Engagement Consultant to work within the Métis Education, Teaching and Learning team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Métis Education Teaching and Learning, the successful candidate be responsible for developing and delivering tools for greater parent/student awareness and understanding of educational pathways and course selection process, and professional development/training that addresses unconscious bias & long-term implications of streaming. The successful candidate will set up engagements between school districts and families to share newly developed resources to address these issues and will produce a final report making recommendations on Academic Streaming at the end of this project.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about ensuring Métis high school students and parents are aware of all options and pathways available, so students can reach their highest potential in transitioning from high school to further learning and in all areas of advanced education.
To Fit the Role
Responsibilities:
- Develop tools and resources, including communication guides, to increase awareness and understanding of educational pathways and course selection process for career choices.
- Work to enhance student and parent understanding of educational pathways and the course selection process.
- Develop and deliver Professional Development and training to increase Educator and Administrator awareness of unconscious biases and negative implications for Métis students and learn strategies on how to better align Métis students in appropriate academic streaming pathways.
- Coordinate in-person engagement sessions with families in various school divisions to determine recommendations on current school policies/processes.
- Revisit students and parents of the school divisions and follow through on the reported recommendations.
- Work to strengthen trust and community connections between students, parents, and schools.
- Produce a final report outlining recommendations on Academic Streaming.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends for RLI events and other activities, as needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel, as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
- A degree in Education, preferably with a focus on Secondary Education, Indigenous Studies, Policy studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in a high school setting.
- Experience in career pathway planning.
- Experience with developing and delivering professional development and training sessions.
- Experience in professional or educational settings is an asset.
- Experience in a non-profit and Indigenous organizations are assets.

- Expertise in using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides), and Canva.
