Teaching Statement:

Food provided to children at residential schools was often leftovers, poor quality, and lacked nutritious fresh items such as fruit while clergy/instructors were given nutritious meals.

Reflective Questions:

What message is sent to children when they are not given the same standard of care as other Canadian children? How would the loss of traditional food affect children?  What effect does constant hunger have on growing children?

If you were raised in a residential school and often there was not enough food to eat – how would this affect you as an adult?
