Rupertsland Institute Completes Alberta Métis Community Engagement Sessions
Rupertsland Institute – Métis Centre of Excellence hosted a series of community engagement sessions across Alberta to gather information on how it can better serve Métis citizens. The sessions, which took place between October and December of 2012 were held in eleven communities, and attracted participation from over 180 community members. The communities that held sessions were:
- Fishing Lake
- Lloydminster
- Lethbridge
- Pincher Creek
- Medicine Hat
- Grand Cache
- Edson
- Grande Prairie
- Peace River
- High Level
- High Prairie
Information on its Métis Training to Employment program and Métis Scholar Awards, now available at nine post-secondaries across Alberta, was discussed. Community input was gathered to help identify the most important education and employment needs of the Métis in communities across Alberta, and how Rupertsland Institute might best meet those needs.
Feedback from the sessions is now being compiled into a report to the Rupertsland Institute Board of Governors, and will help to shape the future of Education, Training and Research done by the institute going forward.
