As an advocate for Métis education, training and research, Rupertsland Institute actively engages with the federal and provincial governments, educational institutions across Alberta and other stakeholders to further RLI’s goals.

Métis Specific Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries

The Rupertsland Institute Métis Post-Secondary Education Program is proud to be able to support many Métis Albertan’s pursuing their post-secondary education, however the program has a limited budget, and unfortunately not all Métis students who apply are able to receive funding.

METI-Services Funding Opened for 2024-25


The Rupertsland Institute would like to share that funding for the METI-Services stream is now open. METI-Services funding covers programs such as trades, certificates under 52 weeks, and all years of a diploma program. All applicants must be registered with the Rupertsland Métis Student and Alumni Association (RMSA) and be a current Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Métis Nation of Alberta) citizen.

Temporary Pause to RLI Funding

Please be advised that the Rupertsland Institute (RLI) has reached its budget threshold of committed funds to Métis clients and students for 2023-24. As such, we are placing a pause on client/student intake until we finalize our total funding commitments.

Statement on CEO Departure

The Rupertsland Institute (RLI) wishes to share that Mark McCallum, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from 2021 to 2023, has departed from RLI for other opportunities. We wish Mark the best in his future endeavors. The RLI Board of Governors and Otipemisiwak Métis Government have taken steps for interim leadership until an executive search for a new CEO has been completed.

Kitchen Party

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) was pleased to host the Rupertsland Métis Student and Alumni Association (RMSA)’s Kitchen Party at the River Cree Resort and Casino on September 25. Students and alumni were able to meet their advisors, connect with one another, celebrate their culture, and mingle with the newly elected representatives for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Beaver’s Den pitching competition a great success for young entrepreneurs

On May 13 and 14, Rupertsland Institute (RLI) hosted the inaugural Beaver’s Den during the Sôniyâhkêw (they earn): Métis Youth Side Hustle Summit. Contestants competed for financial incentives to kickstart and fund their side hustles. “What an incredible weekend for Métis Youth to inspire, encourage, and support.” said Donna Bell, manager of Indigenous Relations and Supports at NorQuest College and member of the Rupertsland Institute Board of Governors.

Holden Ekeberg


Rupertsland Institute encourages, empowers, and supports current and aspiring Métis entrepreneurs through workshops, up-skill support, and much more. With the tools available, all that is needed is for motivated Métis entrepreneurs to take the leap into starting their own business. Holden Ekeberg is one of those individuals.

RLI Welcomes Talented Métis Students to the Team as part of the Inaugural Métis Internship Program

By: Samantha Hamann, Communications Intern Launched in January 2023, the Métis Internship Program was created to present Métis students with the opportunity to gain meaningful experience in their fields in a culturally rich environment. Among these interns are web developers, HR assistants, communications coordinators, and other creative and technical based post-secondary students.
